----- ”A clone? Now that’s interesting. Why would they augment arificials with hardware?” Having established a mental link he would continue to pour in energy to keep it open.
Unlike before, the house was in pristine condition. The dust, the broken glass, the spoiled food, it was all gone. It was evident a Hydra clean up had done their job thoughoughly. Ira was found to be sitting on the edge of the desk in the study, one leg crossed over the other and her hands neatly folded upon her lap awaiting his arrival. There was a plasma pistol sitting in plain view next to the briefcase beside her.
“I was hoping Rycroft would send you, Ira. We have history.” Bernard announced from the doorway. ”You won’t be needing that pistol. There will be no killing today. At least, that is the planned outcome if Rycroft comes through as promised. Judging by the briefcase, he appears to have done just that. “
”You alone? I didn’t see that cycle of yours out front.”
He was careful not to tip his hand just yet.
”Back to business. You wouldn’t mind opening that (he jestured to the briefcase) for me would you? It would be a shame if it were only a decoy.”

Without her hardware her senses were limited in what she could and couldn't do, one of which was her now limited hearing. She looked up as Bernard entered the room and began to speak. Instinctively, her hand reached out to touch her gun, but then she relaxed slightly. A flicker of annoyance crossed her face as she realized he caught her off guard, but it quickly returned to being neutral and stoic. She didn't speak right away, she slid the briefcase around, lifted it up onto her lap, unlocked the case by flipping the two metal tabs up, then revealed the contents inside. There were pictures of a few agents (some of which Bernard had seen earlier from the hacker's email), as well as a few maps and blueprints. She slammed the case shut and locked it back and returned it to her side on the desk.
"How I got here isn't important, if I'm alone also isn't important. The items you asked for is in the case, you may look it over when we are done. However... a few of the agents for your team are currently missing so we will get back with you about who will accompany you in the future. Rycroft knows that he is asking you a favor to go to District zero, but he also has another favor to ask if you are willing to cooperate. With your talents, it should be an easy task. He will compensate you for it."
Her thoughts flashed to the events she spoke of. A team of agents lost in the Underground after part of the tunnel had collapsed, she didn't know the details, but she knew that they may not be alive at this point due to the fact that they lost radio contact and there was no way to reach them... Perhaps they were in a similar situation she was currently in and simply had no way of reaching out. She didn't focus on it though, she let the thought slip away. As for the mission- the favor that Rycroft wanted, she thought of the leaders of the Underground. Carson was dead, but Rycroft wanted them all out of the way. Ira's thoughts flashed to the people guarding the tunnels.
'The fight won't truly be over until we wipe the Aces out and remove that thorn from our side. Will he play along to cut off the head of our enemy?

((SP 52-2/55 of 60 Exp 7/10)) HP:=120 Focus skill 7/20 ((ESP-Telekinesis-stacking the odds- Roll=81)) ----- “ Convenient. How does one just lose a few agents?” Bernard thought. It was a dangerous game that she played. Her thoughts betrayed her, showing signs of nervousness and anxiety, a fear of death and loneliness. …
The Sensitive would play upon those fears.
”You’re stalling! ” He accused.”I told you I wouldn't tolerate any games.” His point emphasized as the two objects next to her, the plasma pistol and the briefcase, we’re jerked toward him telekinetically into his awaiting grasp. Isolated and weaponless, he no doubt had her undivided attention as he pointed the newly aquired weapon toward the agent and released the safety .
He was not about to betray Maio again. There was no price that could compensate for what she would ask him to do.
In control, the Sensitive took the window of opportunity that was generated to reach out telepathically to Maio following the connection he had established earlier to his young Asian companion as easily as if she had been placed on hold by one of those electronic communication devices. ”Ira’s here; along with the information I requested. That electronic processor of hers will undoubtably connect with Hydra as soon as it is able to reboot. You should be able to piggyback that signal to aquire the access to their network you have sought after.”
Without missing a beat he continued to address the woman he held at gunpoint.
"The excursion to District Zero is to be delayed, pushed that easily to the back burner? Is that the case Ira? Rycroft made it sound like there wasn't much time."
”Compensated how?” He asked in a much gentler tone. He had artfully skirted the immediate question regarding the job itself. It would come up on its own accord. The size of the prize would indicate just how eager they were for his participation. Bernard believed this added contract a test; a question of alliances. His apparent greed would go a long way into expound his motivation.
Without her mental processor her emotions could not be shut off and controlled like a robot; she flinched as her weapon and the briefcase were pulled from her. A deep frown came on her face and she stood up straight to face him. Fear began to kick in and take control. By instinct, she was now on high alert to either fight or flee.
Wavelink popped in to acknowledge what he told her. "I'm impressed, I understand now. Quite sneaky aren't you? I'll be ready to piggyback the signal. It looks like it is trying to reboot now but it is having a hard time booting up. Give it a few minutes. I'll ride the waves straight into Hydra HQ."
While Wavelink was giving the mental communication, IRA began talking verbally. "The mission isn't put 'On the back burner" as you say, but it cannot be completed until other matters are handled first."
She paused for a bit and then added "I'm not stalling." A flicker of annoyance came on her face as she chose her words, then spoke what she was thinking.
"My... my hardware isn't working.... I was to be given instructions on how to handle the meeting... I don't know... how to proceed on my own..."
She stared at him awkwardly as she confessed the problem she was facing. "Rycroft was to provide further details. The clones are normally given details on a need to know bases, we don't think, we are trained not to question but to act. At the moment, I am not receiving new orders. I seem to be.... malfunctioning."
She looked very uneasy now after admitting what was on her mind, but another part of her relaxed as she realized she had a few minutes to speak freely without anyone listening.
"I hate being a puppet. Things at Hydra has been falling apart for quite some time now, I am afraid what will happen to me when things fall apart. I am not... intentionally playing games... it is how we were.... programed." She finished.
She studied him to see if he understood what she was trying to say, then went back to the topic at hand. "Rycroft wants you to assassinate the current head of the Aces in an attempt to disband them for good. Take control if you have to, just get them to leave us alone. We will pay you money, give you a new identity, whatever you need. Once that thorn in our side is removed, we can proceed with our other plans according to schedule. We are willing to work with you if you are willing to work with us.... that is all I know for now."

Things at Hydra has been falling apart for quite some time now, I am afraid what will happen to me when things fall apart. I am not... intentionally playing games... it is how we were.... programed." She finished studying him to see if he understood what she was trying to say
”I think that’s the first honest thing you’ve told me Ira. Relax, you can sit back down. I have little inkling to kill you.” He lowered the gun. ”You sound a lot like him….Phantan. Unique. It must be confusing.”
”I.R.A.” He drew out the word. ” Your name’s an acronym, what does it stand for?”
Bernard took himself out of her head. They was liitle need at this point, the ice had been broken. She seemed compliant enough. Besides it would only complicate things if she detected his presence. There were so many questions and so little time. They were like trained pets. Loyal and obedient.Rycroft being a clone was probably on a short leash as well.
”Programed how?” he asked before digging into the much deeper issue.
”Things have been falling apart? In what manner? Has Rycroft lost control? Who whispers in his ear?”
Time was ticking with her mental processor due to come online he made one final proposal.
”If you EVER feel the need we CAN always talk off the record. You don’t have to worry about your audience back at HQ. They can’t read your thoughts right? All you have to do is allow me to slip by that shielding…. They would never be the wiser to our conversations.”
To her,the non-verbal exchange might almost seem normal on some level; an opportunity much like she was experiencing to speak freely. Bernard redirected the dialog back to a more benign topic should her hardware come back online.
”Assassinate whom precisely? The masked Sensitive asked. ”The Aces’ leadership hasn’t exactly been stable since Carson has been out of the picture. Is there a specific target? Targets? I HAD the notion to take the gang semi-legit; turning the club into a casino and steer the members away from their ambitious ways. Unfortunately, things are unsettled at the moment. I don’t think they’re ready to listen quite yet. Part of the reason I wanted Hydra out of the underground; to buy time. If you're saying this has become the priority..for what?.....a few lost agents?... then nothing has changed. Has it?”
"Cash I can always get my hands upon. I want a generous stockpile of stims and antibiotics up front; as well as an operational Vita-tank, like the ones in your hospitals, and any necessary equipment that may be needed to keep it operational should I accept the task."

IRA nodded her head. "Infallible Reinforcement Agents, we were the successors over the failed Zenith unit. We were fixed." She said flatly.
”Programed how?” That question seemed to annoy her.
"I shouldn't be talking about this... You say you won't hurt me, but my dead siblings tell me otherwise. The IRA units are the best when it comes to fighting humans... but you... I suppose I'm dead either way." Her eyes showed a hopeless fear again, there wasn't much she could do against a psychic foe.
"My mental processor is embedded in my head, I cannot remove it. And yes, if it is turned on they will have direct access to my thoughts. The processor filters my thoughts and is directly linked to the hardware when it is active. I was unconscious for a while before you entered after it shut down, I was.... useless... Had I been fully upgraded, the EMP probably would have killed me. We do have other enhancements outside of electronics so that we can continue to function in case they fail. There are also failsafes put in place if I do not follow orders. Even now, if it were to come back online and they heard me talking, I could be killed at the push of a button. After this, I fear there will be no next time or off the record for me."
"Assassinate whom precisely?" The masked man inquired.
"Whoever is the current head. Our current plan was to mass exterminate them all. A full cleanup is easier than playing a guessing game. You're like me, you've killed many this far. Is there a problem?" She asked in return.
"It doesn't matter how you do it, just get the thorn out of our side. The last request sounds.... complicated.... A lot of our technology was lost during Phatan's rampage... I do not know if they will be willing to give you a full Vita-tank... I am sure if we gain control of the other facility we will have more resources. I will pass on the request."
She now went on to answer his earlier question. "There is a power grab for control, I don't know who. There are many... There are multiple clones walking around... some of which are public, the public is not supposed to see us. There is to be one executive clone at all times, my siblings and I are to remain hidden or covered. If you were to ever meet one of my siblings, you would not know it. A few of the executives broke protocol and activated... duplicates... The duplicates are not outfitted with the failsafe hardware... They are also self aware... Sometimes..." She seemed to have difficulty finding the right words. "The clones... can be unstable..." She finished.
She stopped to think again, then continued on. "One of our high ranking agents has gone rogue... We were to assassinate him, but he has gone off the radar. He is very strong and very dangerous, he is special like you... Not like you though, he is different... We are very short on reliable human- or Sensitive, help. I do know that Rycroft needs these agents, or he might lose his grasp on allies. IF we do not recover them, you will be sent in with a group of clones..."

((SP 49-1/55 of 60 Exp 7/10)) HP:=120 Focus skill 7/20 ----- The burden realizing one could be killed at the push of a button, was no way to live.
"Whoever is the current head. Our current plan was to mass exterminate them all. A full cleanup is easier than playing a guessing game. You're like me, you've killed many thus far. Is there a problem?" Ira asked in return.
“I have killed. Many, as you have so bluntly put it. Primarily to ensure my freedom. You trust unquestionably. I’m afraid for me, trust doesn’t come so easily. I have someone in the Aces I have began to trust. I don’t want to jeoprodize that relationship.”
"Complicated or not, it is my price." He reaffirmed. “You’ve said it twice now. Out of OUR side. It seems personal. Or are you just reciting an opinion that someone has stated previously? Is this why you fear me IRA? Somebosy else’s opinion.
Ira went on to answer his questions regarding Hydra’s pecking order. Her point of view brought forth some curious details. He knew that if what she said was true, his questioning had already initiated the clone’s death sentence. On some level he assumed she knew the same. The more he pushed the more dangerous it became. Did he really believe she was unique? Was this I.R.A. a living being or merely a well constructed copy to be used and disposed? He still had unresolved questions regarding the executive's but he felt it best to put them aside. He would seek those answers elsewhere.
He took off the silver Rolex from his wrist and tossed it to her. "Wear this." Bernard stipulated. "At least it will give me an idea in the future which I.R.A. I have become acquainted with should I encounter one of your sisters in your stead. How long until you are able to communicate my terms to Rycroft? I will need an answer before I consider taking any action."

“You’ve said it twice now. Out of OUR side. It seems personal. Or are you just reciting an opinion that someone has stated previously? Is this why you fear me IRA? Somebody else’s opinion."
She frowned again and had to think about it. "That.... is not my opinion, but they have attacked my people so I fight them without question. I don't deal with the Aces often, I am used for more important missions. If I am assigned a target I will kill them without question. If they continue to do what they do and hinder Hydra's operations, our company may collapse... If that happens I will be discarded. My enemy is Hydra's enemy. They are our enemy." She finished
IRA first inspected the object, and then slipped on the watch over her wrist. "They may take it from me if they notice." She said flatly. "I will ask if I can keep it. I might reboot any minute now, I should prepare. I will let you know when it is done." She fell silent and sat down on the floor and closed her eyes.
It didn't take long before she jerked, she squinted violently as a sharp pain filled her head, and then a neutral expression came upon her face as the mental processor took control.
Wavelink was ready and waiting nearby with her laptop and data-uplink. She connected to the wireless signal that was being sent to Hydra, hacked it, bypassed the security measures, and slipped in. She set up a small bug that could run through their system without being detected to gather information slowly, nothing that would set off any alarms. Slow and steady was her pace. She would piggyback the rebooting signal and keep the link through IRA's head. The hard part was distance, but she would worry about that when they crossed that bridge. Thanks to her superpowers, a large part of the operation was done psychically without a digital trace.
"I'm in. I need to set up a few more security measures to cover my tracks but I have access. Stall her a little longer, I'll set everything up. I just need a few more minutes." Wavelink replied mentally.
IRA opened her eyes and slowly stood up. "The system is finished. The EMP has created complications and I will need to go in for repairs, but I have contact with Hydra base. I am sending the requests to Rycroft now...." She fell silent for a moment.
"He doesn't like the Vita-tank suggestion but he will consider it. You will need to rebuild the location so that the hardware can fit, that will require several technicians to set it up. The medical supplies he can provide. He wants to know if you will carry out the plan to rid us of the Aces.... Is there anything else you need?"

”I’ll do my best.”Bernard responded to Wavelink’s time request.”Let me know when you’re set.”
“.... Is there anything else you need?" Ira enquired seemingly dousing the Sensitive’s initial proposal.
There were several things he needed at the moment. None of which Hydra could supply. Not the least of which was that he needed to let Wavelink know Hydra’s proposed agenda. He knew that the mere mention of Hydra’s extermination request would send her off the deep end. He knew first hand that dropping that information now, while she was initiating the worm would be disastrous. He would have to break it to he later but Rycroft wanted a commitment now. Bernard would have to tread very carefully with this one.
”The imbursement as it stands is a mere pittance for my services given the task you ask to be completed."Bernard remarked dryly while his mind searched for a solution to his relational conundrum. "Without the Vita-tank, your offer contains nothing I couldn’t acquire myself with a portion of the difficulties."
“I'm operating blind here! Where’s the intel? How am I to know I have even fulfilled the request without any specific targets? Am I just to keep exterminating Aces until you are satisfied with the results? I don't get it, how are they such a threat?”
“If I AM to rid you of the Aces, I’ll need YOU to wipe out the competition; a clean slate so to speak from which to work. I don’t need the Sharks or Los Lobos moving into the neighborhood when I'm done.”
It was a heavy handed approach but so were Hydra's aspirations.
((Wavelink covers her digital tracks: 62+10SP+10 Data uplink=82. Hidden, and dangerous...))
“I'm operating blind here! Where’s the intel? How am I to know I have even fulfilled the request without any specific targets? Am I just to keep exterminating Aces until you are satisfied with the results? I don't get it, how are they such a threat?”
IRA listened, then gave a nod of her head. "Wait." She fell silent for a bit.
Wavelink injected one of the watered down blue serums into her neck and let the power surge take effect. She began to speak on their psychic channel. "She is talking with someone. It shows up in her vision as a text feed, she is reading it. They are about to send her some files to her hardware. I'll be able to take a look at it when it arrives."
Wavelink didn't have to look though because IRA told the information she received. "The targets that would have most likely succeeded Carson is one Garrett Beaconsfield, he is about twenty years of age or so. Weighs around 160 pounds, 5'10, blue eyes. He is a human and should be easy to dispatch, but he is very skilled with disguises. He is a professional con man. The second target would be Miao Wei, age nineteen, about 112 pounds, 5'3, asian female, black hair- it may be dyed, brown eyes. She is a Sensitive and very dangerous. We have very little intel about her powers, you will have to proceed with caution. Those two targets have been spotted with Carson on multiple occasions, we need them eliminated. We are sure that one of them will succeed him and continue to cause us trouble. We have reason to believe that they were behind the current traps in the Underground. I can handle the other two gangs, they are not infected or as well armed as the Aces. the last two supply trucks that were hijacked had valuable weapons and items, it is how they keep their Underground black market going. We need them shut down." She fell silent for a second more, then added.
"If you do this, Rycroft says you will have proved yourself and will ensure that club Exxel and the surrounding turf is yours and will give you the Vita-tank, as well as a regular supply of VB serums that will be delivered to you and you will have access to our other services. Your criminal record will also be expunged so that you will be a free man." She stared at him blankly to await his reply.
Wavelink was reading the messages as IRA was verbally speaking them. "No deal!" She yelled through her thoughts. A heated anger swelled up in her emotions. "We don't need Hydra, I'm in their system and I've covered my tracks. I'm a ghost, and they have no idea I'm in here. I can take and do whatever I want. If I wanted to I could flip that kill switch of hers right now and make her drop dead like a fish out of water. I'm normally against violence, but they've already taken enough from me. Put a bullet in her, then we'll go get Rycroft next. I'm sick of playing their games!"
