”There’s no need to draw any unnecessary attention to our movements. We’ll take the van. It will give you some surveillance shelter while I’m inside.”
Once on their way he opened up.
” I HAVE considered pursuing a more rougue entry into Districtict Zero. The decision might be more feasible if Garret was in fighting form. We lack the manpower. I asked Rycroft to provide insertion information with the other documentation. Once we know the entry plan and what we're up against we can more accurately choose our course. One thing Rycroft said sat funny with me during our meet. He indicated he couldn’t send the team in by air... we would be shot out of the sky. Anyone that went in would have to go by foot. Add to this the incident in the underground only increases my suspicions.”
”You know doubt wondered why I didn’t kill the man when I had the opportunity. In a nut shell, the legend of Hydra. To destroy it you have to be sure to get the primary head. I don’t think Rycroft is anything more than a distraction. There IS someone else manipulating him behind the scenes. Somebody even Rycroft is afraid to confront directly. I think this ‘mission’ of his is off the books. Why else couldn’t he open a window to fly us in?”
”For that reason, true absolution isn’t located behind those walls. Yet, I think I have a good idea where to start.”
That path scared him even more. The frightful prediction flashed in his mind.
There was a loud buzzer that began to sound and red warning lights began rapidly flashing within the dark halls. Swarms of Hydra soldiers began running down the hallway. Bernard could see himself in third person, trapped in the hall all by himself as large metal security doors began to slam shut around him. He began trying to burn his way out with his heat powers just like he had done to the bank vault, but after he got through one door there was another blocking his path. Hydra soldiers stood at the ready behind one of the blast doors, at least two dozen of them all armed with heavy weapons... waiting for the last door to open so that they could open fire.
”Things were different now. Weren’t they?”
“Trust”
He paused taking in a deep nervous breath.
”I think you know what I’m talking about. The secret we discovered from Mr. Beck.”
”We never did need that key did we? Only a way to slip in.”
