I'm having trouble connecting to RPGW, I keep getting those stupid timeout error messages. At first I thought it was on my end, but I'm typing this message now, meaning I can connect to FG. So I guess I'll try posting my response later to see if it works. I'm about to leave out now so he will just have to wait for my reply.

I have never seen a full episode of bleach before so I've had to go and do some research on it. I now understand a bit better what his character is doing, and what she is capable of. Turns out, stalling to keep his spirit busy was the right move to do. If they combine together, his spirit will give him a whole new move set of really nasty and devastating attacks.

Kynn is going to have to step up his game to match her power level for when that happens. I'm starting to think the Arena is only full of highly advanced combat writers.

Who asked you? The officials that host the tournament?
Was it because they thought it was godmodding or something?
I've been looking at a lot of fights in the hall of records, and some of the non-human fighters in there are just ridicules.
Hmm, I guess they had their reasons for banning his magic...

And I was also snooping around your bio page a few days ago, but I couldn't find Khayyam's character bio. I was going to read about all the things he could do so that I could follow the fight a bit better. Did you post it in one of the Grassroots topics?

The organizer explained it like this:

If you only went by what I stated above, then you would be allowed to. However, I think almost nobody would appreciate their character being manipulated in such a manner so directly, so I'm going to ask you to refrain from doing so. You can manipulate her equipment, however.

- If you wish to manipulate an opponent's clothing, you must remove it first before using it for any sort of attack, giving them a chance to respond as per Eden Era rules.
In a fight, you would use your first turn attempting to take whatever part of your opponent's clothing/hair you wanted to use, and if in their response it is allowed, then your next post can make use of it. That's really because of Eden Era rules more than anything else, and making it any faster causes force-hitting, so I can't really balance it all too well. However, not too many characters are going to be able to realistically say they keep their hair on their head, so you should be ok.

Oh, I guess I understand their logic. But it is kinda hard to tell what would be a auto hit. Some times some people do fake attacks that sound like they are going for one thing, only to turn it into another attack.

As I said earlier, I've been reading other people's fights so that I could get a better idea on how the T1 battle system worked, and how other people fight in their match ups. I stumbled across Noxize VS SubjectThirteen, their fight is a perfect example of faking an attack. How do you say you dodged or deflected a move if the writer had originally planned all along to do a feint and change moves? For example you could say you blocked someones sword and deflected it away, but wouldn't that be a auto hit if the person was planning on pulling their blade back in the first place to bring the sword around in the opposite direction? It makes it very difficult to write.

Noxize and SubjectThirteen's match is hilarious because it turned in to them arguing about who's attack is right and who's is wrong. This is why it is just easier to use virtual dice.

A second thing that makes T1 difficult is perspective. Does anyone else have that problem? Like when someone says they punch from right to left, do you ever wonder "My right, or their right?" Lol, I don't know how but I always confuse myself when reading the posts.

Anyways, I vote that you and Aiyanna fight with words instead of fists and weapons. I say you try to keep the verbal battle going. That would be so hilarious!

The first question that comes to mind in the execution of a good feint is CAN the attacker realistically change the direction of the original attack he was trying to sell. Much of this has to do with body position and force of the attack. It is far easier to change the directionality of a rapier than a bastard sword. If the attacker sold the initial attack well the defender has no choice but to defend. The change in attack direction is an interrupt to that defense. How the defender chose to respond to the initial stages of the attack (feint) goes a long way in determining how he can react to the change in attack. Can the defender realistically alter his current actions to properly defend? If he/she had reacted to the initial attack in haste (in the nick of time ‘insert name’ blocked bringing….) it would be less likely they would have time to react to the sudden change. If he cannot react to defend perhaps the momentum would best be utilized in a continuation attack of his own. The feint may well have put the attacker at a disadvantage by pulling away his weapon leaving himself exposed to a more devastating attack. Each situation is unique and presents a series of solutions distinct to that moment.

Much of this happens because one’s ego gets in the way unwilling to concede that their opponent pulled off a fantastic move. When everything is broken down into slow motion it becomes easy say I saw it coming but if your opponent’s move truly caught you by surprise why not give him the satisfaction of a connection instead of trying to manipulate the situation to wiggle out of the repercussions. The other aspect people don’t personify well is damage (you can attest to that fact in your battle with XavierDantes). Video games have desensitized the effect of damage to a large degree as your character always fights at the same level regardless of damage or fatigue. Most arena combatants cannot equate the effect an attack would have not experiencing being hacked or slashed with a sword or knife. How quickly they forget how their own bodies react to external stimuli such as a paper cut, bee sting, or whacking out head on a cupboard door.

Perspective can be difficult, especially if your opponent doesn’t give you a lot of information to pull from. Dierection (left /right), should always be from the writer’s perspective I find art mannequins are useful for various positioning questions. I have also at times enlisted the aid of a fight dummy (he’s actually quite qualified in knife technique) to help visualize some of my more elaborate finishing moves. When in doubt ask your opponent for clarification. I’ve seen opponents reach across their bodies to slap a student only to find their description has them swinging at a mirage on the other side of their bodies.

The verbal banter is just a tactic to throw her off guard and take her off her game. When things become ‘personal’ people tend to act hastily and mistakes made. With two personalities present it may be possible to put then at odds against each other. Aiyanna-A is already beginning to creep forward. My opponent expects me to come to her while I can manipulate her from a distance when I choose. My first goal will be to disable the canister weapons although I don’t want to tip my hand too soon.

I 100% agree with this. Even I have trouble sometimes writing out pain or remembering who got damaged and where. My younger brother and I often complain about video games and the NPC not reacting to our damage. We still play our Xbox, and our favorite games are Splinter cell, Ghost recon 2, and Brothers in arms-Earned in blood. One more game I will add to the list is Perfect Dark 64.

Now in perfect dark 64 if you shoot a NPC in the hand, they will drop their gun and scream in pain, and will either attempt to pick it back up or will run off in pain to take cover. Shoot them in the knee and they fall down and will limp around at half speed until they are either killed or disabled. If you get punched, or you punch someone, it blurs your vision and causes the screen to wobble around like you are drunk to disorientate the player. If you shot a enemy in the heart or head, it was a instant kill. Most of these effects only applied to the story mode (punching effects carried over to death match), but it gave a fake video game semi-realistic features.

The problems with all the other games I named earlier, these simulated pain features were removed. The NPC will run around the corner shooting, even though they didn't know that your character was positioned there. You shoot at them and they don't duck, flinch, or take cover. They never flee when you charge them and spray the area up with random bullets. My brother and I noticed that the more games advance, the more they become like bad action movies from the 1980s. Perfect robots that get shot and keep on running like it never happen.
Halo may be one of the worst when it comes to this, and sadly it is also one of the most popular games out there.

Realistic sword combat is pretty much becoming extinct because "Guns are the sword of the new world". It seems people have forgotten what a knife or sword wound would feel like.

Lol. My brother and I used to have sword/fist fights when we were younger. We used to take newspaper, roll it up real tight, take the cardboard tubes that are inside of paper towel rolls and fill it with the newspaper. We would then duck tape the whole thing together. The result was an extremely dense cardboard sword.

We would then use this in a full contact sword fight. They hurt. XD
But it gave us a basic idea of how fast you can swing and then dodge with melee weapons, and how bad it hurts. It is how I learned basic footwork techniques. I gain the rest of my info from watching youtube videos to make sure that the attacks I am attempting to pull off are somewhat realistic.
But even with these experiences of getting "cut" by our homemade swords, pain is still hard to write out in a story.
I guess it is something that many people will have to work on when writing stories for more realistic effects for when it comes to damage.


Changing topics for a second. Should we continue to wait for Safi to post? He said he would post on the weekend, but he may be swamped with schoolwork. I am willing to move on but until the actual heist takes place Bernard is but a bystander on the wings. He is more than willing to allow the two dufuses to risk their lives and take the spoils in the aftermath.
It isn't necessarily his fight at the moment.
Perhaps when he picks up some more information on the cargo via dream of telepathy he might have more interest in the outcome.

I'm not reading this completely: I'm in a rush, but the sword bit, well, the attacking writer should specify his target and an estimate of the damage if successful. If he fails to do so, he shouldn't leave it blank, but rather state it was a feint and what the character is set to truly do instead as it reacts.

Anyway, I'm starting to get a grip on everything, catching up to ALL the chem/biology classes I didn't have in high school... The point being, I can probably post this weekend . Real sorry about this everyone, but I'm really getting roughed around here.

I'll drag your character along but leave her in the Police car, so if Aileana wants to join in she can, and if you aren't able to get on well, we will just move on.

@dave: It looks like your fight against the robot isn't going to be a verbal battle. She seems to be attacking you instead of waiting around.
