" Why? You have anything interesting in mind?" Merle inquired of the Asian female poised across from her
”I was thinking I might swing by Exxel tonight. That is if I manage to get through today’s filing anytime soon. Seems a never ending task at the moment. The club isn’t what it used to be .Management is a mess but, now that we have a likeness, I figure if our yellow garbed vigilante likes to operate outside the law it would be as good a place as any to begin the search.”
"You would be welcome to tag along.” Keiko added."I could give you a call later and meet there?” With that, Keiko was off back to the precinct and her awaiting duty. With any luck she would be able to make short work of the remaining files.
Merle Tucker thought the offer over and gave an indifferent shrug. "Sounds like a good idea. Maybe ask around see if anyone has seen or heard anything interesting. If you finish on time and you're up for a night out, I don't mind joining you. Send me a message when you're finally free. I have a few errands to run and an assignment of my own to finish, so maybe we can meet up later. I'll see you around, Hyogo. Thanks for the hotdog." She gave a small wave as she turned to go about her day.
Meanwhile, Carlyle walked through the hall heading back to his office. He was on the phone and seemed distracted at the moment, and didn't notice Keiko and Merle talking, nor the pile of paperwork left on the desk...
((Merle will help? 50+= yes. Rolled: 15... Nope Carlyle notices the work's not done? 50+=yes. Rolled: 22... Nope.))

((File roll- Roll=43= 20+23+43-at this rate she may never finish))
I'll see you around, Hyogo. Thanks for the hotdog." Merle gave a small wave as she turned to go about her day. Keiko returned the gesture any hurried back to the precinct and her awaiting duty. With any luck she would be able to make short work of the remaining files. There was a deep emptiness that hit her as she passed through the door and noticed the lights on within Carlyle’s office.
”The pig is here? This can’t be good.” she commented to herself as she slipped discretely into her chair and resumed her penance. His presence added a crisp spring in her step as she desperately tried to make headway into the mountainous pile. File after file passed through her hands culminating into a precise organized destination. With each passing moment her guilt lessened as did her drive to continue to push through. "Will this EVER end?" She groaned. It was now nearing 9pm and though the end was in sight she still had at least an hour of work ahead of her.
All she desired at this point was to finish the day uninterrupted and avoid any unsolicited interaction with her sleazy superior in the process. Such an encounter could only lead to trouble and make this day far more dehabilitating than it already had been.
"NO! I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ANY MORE EXCUSES! JUST TAKE CARE OF IT AND GET IT DONE!" Carlyle yelled from his off. The door was closed, but his voice carried through as he raised his voice. He hung up his cellphone and let off an agitated sigh. He adjusted his tie and put his hands on his hips for awhile as he thought the situation over. He then looked out the glass window to his office out at the floor and spotted Keiko, still working on her giant pile of paperwork.
He opened the door and raised his voice as he spoke. "Okay, listen up! Our guys on the street just found a dead body, it's just a few blocks from here down at the docks. I want a CSI team down there ASAP. The first responders that were in the area are already taking a few basic questions from the two guys that found the body. In other news, I want all those murdering vigilantes OFF the streets! Get to work people!"
Carlyle walked over to Hyogo's desk and slammed his hand down on top of the giant stack of documents.
"Hyogo, my star officer. I couldn't have chosen a better person for this job." He said mockingly.
"I see you're still hard at work. I expected this to be done hours ago, but it looks like you have decided to be thorough. If this is too difficult for you, I can always find a more... suitable task. Of course, I'm very flexible and willing to talk about the work you've been doing here. Anything to make you happy. Such as, making you the head detective for this recent murder... I hear the poor lad died by something rather mysterious. Perhaps we could talk about it more... in my office." He said with a sly grin as he stared her down.

” If this is too difficult for you, I can always find a more... suitable task” Her superior bellowed for all to hear.
Carlyle’s sarcasm as well as his innuendos were not lost on the intuitive young detective. It repulsed her, but the wily detective remembered you could catch more flies with honey. So instead of getting her hackles up she chose her words carefully using his verbal daggers to her advantage to convey her point.
”Aww Sir, one of your best?” ”Who knew?” She queried sincerely as she returned his sarcasm straight faced. It was far easier to disguise her emotions since her mind has been augmented with the cybernetic implant.
” Of course, I'm very flexible and willing to talk about the work you've been doing here. Carlyle blathered in response. ”Anything to make you happy. Such as, making you the head detective for this recent murder... I hear the poor lad died by something rather mysterious. Perhaps we could talk about it more... in my office." He said with a sly grin as he stared her down.
Today, she was determined not to be intimidated.
”Thank you for the thought sir. I’m fine with my current assignment. Maybe one of the fellas in the pen would lavish the opportunity to get out and prove themselves. Really. I realize your hands were tied in this. I’m learning a lot.“
Detective Hyogo continued.“That’s why it’s taking me so long filing these reports. Thorough, as you so kindly put it. I was never very good at filling out reports. I’m getting a whole new perspective on just how important proper documentation can be. If we as detectives were more diligent in our note keeping during cases who knows what avenues may present themselves? How much quicker we could we solve cases utilizing this simple tool?”
Carlyle was arrogant. He excelled in making the lives of those around him miserable. Admit it or not, like so many of these vigilantes he loathed, he too operated outside the law. But to prove it? She would have to be careful. The Teflon Man didn’t get to where he was without leverage. She needed to discover the source of his power.
”How did you do it sir?? You know, back in the Glory Days? What catapulted he career of Chief Deputy James Carlyle?”
Carlyle stared at her with an annoyed face expression as his remarks bounced off of the girl with the cybernetic body. He unbuttoned his suit jacket and took a seat on the side of her desk as they talked. His smirk dropped and he stared at her with a dumb blank look as he attempted to try and figure out why she wasn't bothered by his comments. She was cool as ice. He would need to step his game up.
She took his comments and turned them into compliments, using his own mind tricks against him. He knew what she was doing. She had thick skin and was trying not to let him get to her. But everyone had a sore spot.
'We'll see how long that lasts... I'll find a way to get to you somehow.'
He really didn't want to go down the path of talking about his past and personal life, so he decided to deflect and take control of the conversation once more. He cleared his throat to answer her question.
"Well, just like the best on the force before me, I wasn't a lazy slacker that just sat at my desk all day." he said as he squinted his eyes at Keiko.
"The case that moved me forward was a case with a drug and money train that we had to bust. I was working with Bennett back then. Not much to tell really. We found an informant, we tracked the location, and we brought the bastards down. I didn't take any shortcuts to get here, I worked hard and took all the hardest cases to prove I deserved to move up in the ranks. A few cases almost cost me my career, but I was determined to make detective and shoot for the top, and look where I am now." He said as he extended his hands to make his point.
"I would never settle for anything less than perfection. But, I'm sure you couldn't relate to that since you've been put on desk duty for not following simple orders. Maybe you should be more like your sisters... They are all striving to make a name for themselves and they are doing a great job at it. I'm sure that one day you'll no longer live in their shadow and you'll have your time to shine someday." His devious smirk came back across his lips.
"How are they anyways? Your sisters I mean. I need to get back to work and solve this case, but maybe I'll pay a visit to your sister, Kameko. I remember the two of you took on that archer case together. If you don't want to help solve this new case, maybe I should have her solve the case with me instead. We need more young women like her. I think she has a really bright future ahead of her if she keeps up the hard work."

"The case that moved me forward……. I was working with Bennett back then. Not much to tell really……….”
”Bennett??” She queried silently listening to Carlyle's account. ”Could this be where their rift began?”
”…..A few cases almost cost me my career, but I was determined to make detective and shoot for the top, and look where I am now." He boasted as he extended his hands to make his point.
”No disrespect Sir. Sounds like you had a lot more leeway in doing your job. At least these vigilantes don’t seem handcuffed by the beaurocratic red tape I’m facing. Their methodology may be less than perfect but….”
Carlyle interrupted.
”"I would never settle for anything less than perfection. But, I'm sure you can't relate….. And then.…. the smug smirk returned behind those squinty eyes and her veiled innuendos no longer held any significance.
"How are they anyways? Your sisters I mean. I need to get back to work and solve this case, but maybe I'll pay a visit to your sister, Kameko.
”Where was he going with this” She pondered.
”I remember the two of you took on that archer case together. If you don't want to help solve this new case, maybe I should have her solve the case with me instead. We need more young women like her. I think she has a really bright future ahead of her if she keeps up the hard work."
”Wait……WHAT?” ”Was he really that cold?” ”He HAD to KNOW!”
Keiko was furious. She fired back instantly “I DON”T EVEN KNOW IF SHE”S EVER GOING TO FULLY RECOVER YOU INSENSITIVE BASTARD!!” ” Kame lost her sight to that glowing consumer that has been running loose on the streets for the better part of six months! I doubt you’ve even given the incident that almost took two of my sister’s lives a second glance. Let alone any closer to bringing IT down!” She hung her head upon her desk and began to weep.
As short time later the waterworks soon began to diminish.
~sniff~
”Hate to admit it ~sniff~ but I’d bet ~sniff~ anything this vigilante fellow you’re hunting; ~sniff~ or someone like him, brings this yellow eyed freak of nature down long before you and the O.P.D.!” She mumbled softly without looking up from her defeated position. ~sniff~.
Carlyle almost flinched at Keiko's sudden change in mood. He had most definitely struck a chord. That wasn't the reaction he was going for... or was it?
He was aiming to break her, get her to let her guard down, but he didn't think he would hit a soft spot that would actually make her cry. He now remembered the reports coming in that an officer was in a car accident, but he was so busy and preoccupied at the time he didn't pay much attention to which officer it was. Detective Hyogo's sister was the one that was injured. That certainly changed things a bit for him as he pondered how he should respond. He sat there with a dumb expression on his face for a second before he gathered himself.
"Oh... crying? No, we don't cry here!" He said in shock.
"Okay, okay stop it... I wasn't fully aware of the situation... or how complicated it was." He said as he tried to find the words to move things back to neutral ground.
"well... That certainly changes things, doesn't it? It's always the good ones that go down, I would have really liked to have work with her. But now that she's cripple... I mean... injured... *ahem*... I'm sorry to hear. Perhaps I'll have someone look into the matter further." He said as an afterthought.
Carlyle had joined the Neo purist Movement because he didn't like the thought of augmented or super powered people running around causing major damage, and he wasn't one to shy away from hiding his personal or political beliefs. Having a glowing madman run around was exactly the type of thing he didn't want.
"A glowing Consumer is quite alarming, we can't have anymore of those freaks running around destroying my beautiful city... I'm too young to die..." He said in thought.
"I have a new assignment for you, Hyogo. Get that file on my desk first thing in the morning, I need to look at this again. A glowing lunatic shouldn't be too hard to find if we put an APB out on it and get our best artist to draw up a sketch to give our boys an idea about what they should look for. It'll also make me look good if the public knows that one less dangerous monster is off the streets!" He said with a grin as he thought about the positive press feedback he would get for avenging the fallen officers and bringing the Consumer to justice.

”…….. It'll also make me look good if the public knows that one less dangerous monster is off the streets!" Carlyle said with a grin. Carlyle always has an angle. Unfortunately for him in this instance so did Detective Hyogo. It appeared she may be getting closer to her goal. Keiko regrouped.
~sniff~.
”I want to make sure I’m not misinterpreting you sir.” She stated softly.
”You’re lifting my suspension? No more desk duty??” She probed before cementing the parameters of his offer. ”You’re giving me this case along with the resources to back me up?”
The petite Asian female looked up almost helplessly behind the hanging neon pink bangs from her defeated position upon the desk red faced from the tears that had streamed down her once porcelain white cheeks.
”You….you would do that for me??” ~sniff~ "......us…..my sisters. What's the catch?” She clarified. ~sniff~
”Just one more thing sir. I know it’s a lot to ask. Promise me you’ll let me see this case to its end. No matter what the circumstances. If in my investigation into THIS glowing Consumer this case happens to cross paths with ongoing investigations…… I GET jurisdiction. No interference.” ”I'll need your FULL support to close this. We wouldn’t want someone like the 'Archer' inadvertently stealing your spotlight. Don’t you think?”

Carlyle twitched a bit as he realized his proposal did indeed sound like he was putting her back on the job. He didn't want to do it, but at the same time he couldn't think of a better detective for the job. He could ask Bennett... but...
He rubbed at his chin in thought for a moment and reluctantly nodded his head. "Agreed... we don't want the archer stealing my show..." He said in thought.
"Alright, for now, yes, you're on the case. But don't screw this up. The OPD needs a major win after the losses we've been taking, the people are losing their trust. More importantly, don't draw too much attention to yourself. I should probably assign you a partner to babysit you to make sure you behave without doing something reckless. I'd do it myself, but I have other matters to attend to."
Carlyle stood up from sitting on the corner of the desk and stared at her. "Just to make sure you follow the rules, doll face... no firearms or weapons while on the case. The little stunt you pulled with the car chase was proof that you have a difficult time following orders. Find the glowing man, alert the OPD squad of his location, and bring him in. Other than that, you are free to follow the case and solve it anyway you want. Are we clear?" Carlyle said while his smirk grew.
He knew it would be almost impossible to catch an exploding man without using weapons, and waiting for backup could possibly cost her the case if the suspect was attempting to flee the scene. However, if she did catch him and broke the rules while doing so, he would be able to use it against her later to keep her trapped in his net.
