-He looked to his left and smiled at his lovely wife. Wow, she was beautiful. He looked across from him at his daughter. She was eating her steak, trying to eat her food without cutting it into smaller pieces. He chuckled. They were at a dinner party. All dressed in fancy dresses and tuxedos with relaxing music playing in the distance. They were all happy. The music was replaced with the sound of a revolver's hammer cocking back into position.
The environment changed. He was standing in a dark warehouse. A giant revolver rose up out of the ground and aimed straight for his head. He let out a yell. "Noooo! Take me instead!" He raised a hand to stop it. But no matter what he did, the outcome was always the same. The gun turned around and aimed at the ground, his crying daughter Noa was now sitting exactly where it was pointing. The gun seemed to taunt him by just pointing there. He tried running to grab her before it happen. There was a bright flash as the bullet fired. It spun out of the barrel in slow motion, his hand stretched out to stop it. The entire warehouse building exploded into an ocean of blood, sweeping his daughter away. Just as the tidal wave of blood was about to wash over him, everything turned white.-
The white light was the sun. It was shining through his window. His eyes had snapped open and he was staring at it. He realized he was screaming and quickly stopped, his throat hurting from the effort. He must have been doing it all night.
He was drenched in sweat. He also now realized he was sitting straight up. His alarm clock was buzzing to wake him up. His heart was pounding in his chest. And to make matters worse, he hurt like hell from fighting that psychic the other night. Bandages were wrapped around his ribs and around his right shoulder. He grunted and leaned over to the nightstand, keeping one hand around his ribs as he did so. A bottle of scotch was next to the lamp within arms reach. He grabbed the bottle and took a long swig. "Gah... That's the stuff." He wiped his mouth with his forearm and took another big gulp. He felt the numbing effect began to wash over him as the liquid went down and settled in his gut.
It helped wash the bad dreams away. It was a recurring dream that he had often. It was always different with how it happened, but it always ended with his daughter dying and a lot of blood. He looked at the time. 0600. It was still early. He slammed the button on the top to stop the alarm from going off.
He needed to get to work and make a few arrangements before heading over to Hydra corp. Today was that big meeting and the squad was required to go down there to make sure everything ran smoothly. He was dreading this. The one thing he would love more than anything was to put a bullet in Rycroft's head. And now his job required to keep the man safe. He spat a curse out of his mouth as he swung the sheets off the bed and went to the shower. He slept in black boxer shorts to keep cool. He learned long ago that sleeping in pajama pants and a shirt just lead to them getting drenched in sweat from the bad dreams. His clothes were folded in neat squares on his dresser, he grabbed them and put them on. He reached into his pocket and stuck a cigarette in his mouth, lighting it with one hand from his metal lighter. He took a few puffs as he headed down to the main lobby to catch a taxi...

-Everything was black. Somewhere in the distance there was a white light overhead, but it would fade in and out and lose focus. There was a voice… and, a sound…

Done. Move it up and down. Make sure it all works correctly.

It works great.
Alright, let’s start- Wait, I think he is waking up. Add more gas to put him back under.
Alright folks, let’s add the finishing touches. All systems online, everything is green!
Bennett’s Daughter stood up out of the darkness and walked over to him and smiled. “Daddy, it’s time to wake up now.” She held out her hand and attempted to pull him to his feet.-
Everything turned a blazing hot white and there was a loud feedback sound that pierced his ears. The sound grew louder and louder and blared into a pulsing beat that very slowly got deeper in pitch. Bennett opened his eyes to see a single bright yellow sun beam shining down on his face through a patch of heavy clouds.
His alarm clock was blaring to wake him up out of his sleep. Bennett let off a groan and rolled over to slam his hand on the off button on the alarm clock. The beeping sound stopped and he slowly sat up. He was drenched in sweat and was wearing nothing but his boxer shorts.
His head felt like he had a severe hangover, which wasn't unlikely. His head was foggy and he couldn't remember what had happened or how long had been asleep. The last thing he remembered was…
He rubbed at the left side of his chest and looked down. It was smooth and there were no scars or bandages in sight. “I thought I got shot by some punk…”
He stood to his feet and walked to the bathroom. He flicked on the light and went to the mirror. He saw the same familiar face in the reflection staring back at him, bags under the eyes, grey forming in his hair and beard. It looked like he had a few new wrinkles around his eyes from always squinting and frowning, as well as a few more near his upper lip from smoking all those cigarettes everyday. Nothing looked out of place. He turned on the cold water and doused his face a few times to clear his head.
“It was just a bad dream. It was all just a dream. Another nightmare…” He turned the sink water off and stripped off his boxer shorts to take a nice long hot shower. After he got out the shower he got dressed in some black slacks and a white button up shirt and put on a black sports coat. He walked to the kitchen counter and found the wicker basket with his car keys sitting on the top as usual. He reached over and held the keys in his hands. Something seemed off but he couldn’t put his finger on it. He dismissed the thought for now and headed out the door to go to work…

Jack made his way through the halls of Hydra Corp. and back to the main hallway where he walked outside and stood on the sidewalk. He used a nearby pay phone to call for a Taxi and rode the rest of the way home. After arriving, he made his way straight up to his apartment unit and unlocked the door. He was half expecting his Ex-wife to be waiting for him, but when he opened the door she was no where to be seen and the apartment was exactly the way he left it.
He left all the lights off and walked to the bathroom and stared at his dark reflection in the mirror. He turned on the cold water and doused his face a few times to get his head straight. He kept thinking about his cybernetic implants and how these 'Upgrades' would affect his life. He stared at himself for a few minutes before walking to his bedroom to undress and put on a pair of pajama pants. He laid down but didn't get much sleep. His mind constantly kept wondering and going over the events of the day.
He decided that he would buy a large bottle of alcohol in the morning to help him sleep better at night and keep his mind straight, and then maybe go and find his Ex-wife to ask her more about the operation procedure...

Jack had a restless sleep and by the time he woke up it was already late in the day. He sat up and ran a hand over his face. It was funny that his broken sleep had caused him to actually oversleep.
It didn't matter, Murphy had tried to give him a day off so even if he didn't check in right away it wasn't like he could get mad. Bennett remembered that he had asked the Hydra agents to send the documents and information to his desk at the station, he needed to get over there to take a look at it all.
He didn't bother showering, he tossed some clothes on and headed down to the parking lot. The squad car was still parked in the same spot from the previous day so he unlocked the door and headed southwest to go to the greasy spoon.
He pulled up to the drive-thru window and ordered a couple of burgers, some fries, and a large cola. His total came up to be $12. He paid the bill and started driving towards the Government district to get to work.
