This is Murphy's office, anyone who knows him will steer clear from his path. If you must bother him, this the place you will most likely find him. But you've been warned that he doesn't like to be bothered with nonsense, and he will be more then happy to take his anger out on you...

Bennett paid the cabby and stepped into the building, flashing his badge at the guard at the weapons check near the entrance. He was buzzed in for the next room. Jimmy Carlyle was waiting for him, two cups of coffee in his hands. He hated that guy, but at least he had coffee... "Yo, Bennett!" Jim licked his lips and walked over. He gave Jack a punch on the arm, handing him one of the coffees. He sniffed and rubbed his nose. "Murphy is looking for you, man. Between you and me, the guy is pissed. I heard he is on an all fiber diet because he's got trouble with the house plumbing, if ya know what I mean. Better get your butt in there before he goes off again. Yo, I'll see you later. I'm on perimeter search over at Hydra, and I'm thirty minutes late. Tsk." He gave a wink and turned to walk away.
Yeah, I hate that guy. "Thanks. I'll pay Murphy a visit..." He turned and started making his way to Murphy's office. He stopped at the door and took a breath. He was about to step into Hell's highway. Here goes...

"BENNETT!" Murphy slammed both fist onto the desk so hard that the laptop, the box full of pencils and the stack of papers that cluttered the desk all jumped at least two inches off the desk from the force. Murphy's nostrils flared as his right hand grabbed the newspaper and held it up for Bennett to see. "WHAT IN THE BLAZES OF HELL IS THIS?!" His fist crushed the paper and he proceeded to ball it up and throw it at Bennett's head. "You call that a success? Blowing up the streets and killing a man? You caused more destruction than the guy that robbed the bank! And guess who has to pay for it? Guess who has to deal with the press? That's right, ME!" He was now fuming with rage. "Did your momma drop you as a baby and then raise you as a complete screw up? Not any more Bennett. Not any more!
"This was the last straw. No more screw ups! The people are losing their trust in the OPD. The people are saying they actually want Hydra's OPs to take over in law enforcement. Craziest piece of shi-" He ran a hand over his mouth, breathing hard. He reached into the bottom drawer of his desk and took out a small canister of prescription pills, he shook out two of them and popped them in his mouth.
"We have to win back the trust of the public." He pointed a finger at Bennett. "You're going to change your image boy, or you're off the squad. I want you on escort duty for Hydra's new shipment. I want it to arrive with no problems. And I want you to stop blowing people up in the streets! I want to see the crime rate drop within one week. ONE WEEK! Bring the missing people back, solve the murders, drop the crime rate. I want the entire force working together to make this happen. If we take any more heat the OPD will be shut down. And if we're gone, that will give Hydra complete control..."

Bennett listened on while Murphy ran him down. He was talking about the bank robbery the other day with the mind bender. Bennett took the cigarette out of his mouth and tapped the end a few times, the ash fell on the carpet of Murphy's floor. If his boss noticed it, he didn't say anything about it. He was now going on about escorting Hydra trucks and solving murders. Got it...
He let off a soft grunt by the time Murphy finished, sticking the cigarette back in his mouth. "That all? You done yet? Good. I'll lower the crime rate for ya. But I'll do it my way. On My terms. The streets are clean because I'm the one cleaning them up. If the OPD was out there doing their job half as good as I was, they would have been on the scene in time to give me the proper back up that I needed to take that guy down. I'm the best you've got and you know it!" Instead of being the hero that stopped the bad guy, people were saying that Bennett was too reckless and causing a lot of destruction in the city. They were pinning the blame on him. He was suppose to be the good guy, the hero. He was the one out there busting his butt everyday to keep the people safe. He was the one out to stop Hydra. No one else seemed to see that they were the bad guys and that what they were doing was going to get a lot of people killed. The last thing Bennett wanted was Hydra getting more control over the city.
"What we need is more competent help. I'll stop blowing up those freaks when I see them all locked away and off the streets. So listen up. We're both on the same page. We both want the same thing. You and I both know how much I hate Hydra. So the last thing I need is them running the streets. I'll take care of things. You don't have to worry about me doing my job. I'll make sure that truck gets to where it needs to be on time... Just make sure the rest of the squad can keep up." He turned around and walked out of the office, the door slamming shut on his way out.
He was the only one that could talk to Murphy like that without getting fired. The OPD was already stretched thin on officers, and Murphy couldn't afford to let a detective like Bennett slip away. Jack was going to find the other missing officers. Starting with his own partner Boone...
Murphy turned all but red when Bennett began to open his mouth. That man had a death wish coming. It was true, Bennett was the best they had, and if the man died on one of his reckless vendetta missions the OPD was going to suffer greatly. He watched as Bennett walked out of the office and then slammed the lower drawer back shut on his desk. The box of pencils and all the documents tipped over and fell off the desk, a few of the papers slowly floating to the floor. Murphy began breathing hard and ran his hand over his mouth, then settling both hands on his hips. The room was now empty, but he started talking anyways.
"Same page? Yeah, we're on the same page. You better be right, Bennett. Hydra already has too much power, and they are only getting stronger. One more screw up is all we need and it is all over. So you better be right. I hope you know what you're doing..."

((-$25))
Jack made it downstairs to the Apartment building parking lot and pressed the button on his car keys to unlock the car door. Nothing happened. He pressed the button again, and again, and again. Still nothing.
"Oh great. What happened to my car?" He thought about it for a minute and remembered leaving it on the bridge. But wasn't that just a dream...?
He let off a sigh and walked back into the lobby of the apartment complex. "I'm gonna need a ride. Call me a taxi, will ya?" The ride through the streets was actually pleasant. There wasn't much traffic and the driver kept to himself on the way to the OPD headquarters. When Bennett arrived he got out the car and walked to the front desk. Every he passed gave him strange looks as if they had seen a ghost.
He tapped the security glass and waved his ID. "Hey, buzz me in." The guard looked up and a huge smile came on his face. "Yo, Jack! My man, it's good to see you. Man. When you get a chance tell me how you've been!" He buzzed him in and Jack walked into the building.
He received similar greetings as he walked through the hall, people congratulating him and patting him on the back. He headed for Murphy's office and stopped right in front of the door. "Time to meet the devil himself..."
He opened the door and stepped inside.

Murphy was currently in the process of signing some not very important documents when Bennett entered the room. He had small reading glasses sitting on the tip of his nose and he looked up from his desk to see the detective walking in. He grabbed the end of his glasses and took them off, setting them down on the side of his desk.
"Bennett, is that you? Boy, I knew your momma dropped you on the head because there is definitely something wrong with you. Why on this good earth are you standing here in my office, after you have just been shot in the chest a little more than a week ago? I told you, you've got some type of death wish. I'm calling your wife right now to come pick you up, not that she's any better. Something must be wrong with her too for letting you walk out the door half dead..."
Murphy picked up the phone and placed it near his ear.

Jack stopped in his tracks and listened.
'So it was true? The bridge heist did happen. I did get shot...'
His right hand instinctively went to his chest and he began to rub the area near his heart. Someone had some explaining to do. He put his hand out to get Murphy to stop. "Wait, don't call her. There's no need for her to-" He stopped to think about what Murphy just said.
"-Did Carol fly all the way out here after I got shot?" That was heavy information. He hadn't seen his wife- Ex wife, since their daughter had passed. His injury must have been serious.
"Too be honest sir, I don't remember anything. I don't remember much of the bridge job, I don't remember going to a hospital, I don't even remember how I ended up in bed..."
He didn't want to share that much, but he needed answers. He squinted his eyes. "What happened? With everything... Start from the beginning..."

Murphy frowned and leaned back in his chair. He let off a sigh and steepled his fingers together.
"You were a screw up, that's how it all started. After you made several reckless moves in the past I assigned you to babysit a Hydra shipment truck to make sure it arrived at the base safely. It was supposed to be an easy job for you. However, the Wylde Aces gang got involved and it turned into a nasty shoot out, you were shot in the heart, Jack. The blow was lethal.."
He leaned forward and his voice softened up a bit. "We all thought you were a goner. Hydra arrived on the scene faster than a lot of us and they were able to rush you to emergency to get help. Even with the surgery you had bits of bullet shrapnel stuck in your chest, there was no way for the doctors to safely remove it without further damaging your heart. That's when Hydra made a suggestion... "
He took a deep breath as he went into the hard hitting news. "It wasn't our decision to make, so we called your wife, Carol. As you know she was still living in Chicago at the time, but she gave the okay for the surgery and said she would fly down here first thing to be with you. Hydra completely removed your heart and gave you one of their Synthetic organ replacements. A new heart, a new chance at life. I know you and Hydra haven't always seen eye to eye, but they did some good this time. You owe them your life..."
He cleared his throat. "After that, your wife arrived in Osiris and you've been in recovery ever since."

Jack clenched his jaw. Hydra saved him? That was a load of bull! "I owe them nothing! They may have brought me back from the brink of death, but they certainly didn't save my life! Who paid for all of this? Carol couldn't have had the money for this? What's the catch?" Bennett already knew the catch- he was in debt to them, and the only way to pay off that debt would be by working for them to do their dirty work. A detective as their very own puppet.
Well this puppet didn't like games, he would be pulling his own strings.
