I thought I would post again when the animation thing was finished, but that's on hold for awhile. Making this site was one of my main hobbies (beside playing music) and when I finished the site I thought I would be bored with a lot of free time on my hands. Boy was I wrong...
Last week I had to go over my Grandmother's apartment and help her rearrange everything. She had to move everything back so that some lady could paint all of the rooms, and after she painted the rooms me and my brother and sisters had to help move it all back. We did it pretty fast and it actually wasn't as bad as I thought. I had been dreading going, but we got it done within a few hours.
Then today I heard my mom's bird fall off his perch and hit the bottom of the cage. I was like "What the heck? Maybe he's just old and lost his balance..." Because he is 14-15 years old and he does stuff like that sometimes. But then I notice he was climbing back up funny and couldn't properly get back on his perch. After much difficulty he finally got back on, but he wouldn't close his beak shut. For the past few months now his beak has been growing extremely fast, like not normal fast. We looked it up online so we know what the problem is. But today when I saw him, I thought he had a seed stuck in his beak, and since it was so long it got stuck and he couldn't close it. But as I got closer to look...
((Observation check: 90. Success!))
He had no seed in his mouth, his beak had grown so long the top part got jammed inside the bottom half!
He had fallen because he tried to climb down to the bottom perch to eat, but since he couldn't close his mouth he couldn't grab on to the bars and he fell. Now that I saw what was wrong I called my brother in (because my mom had gone out for a bit),
And I grabbed the bird and asked my brother to help me.
Now before I go on I must say that when the bird was just a baby he was very friendly and nice, but my mom had his wings clipped and ever since that day he hated humans to the top degree. He will bite, fight, and hiss if you just look at him. And if you touch him he goes psycho. He knows better not to hurt you so his pecks are more just warnings, but he will flee if you try to get close.
So I must say that holding him so that my brother could try to unjam his beak was very difficult. He manage to do it though. I've held the little bird ever since we got him so I know how to keep him calm and how to hold him without hurting him. My brother had to pull his top beak up, while at the same time sliding it over very slightly. The bird did the rest of the work and it slid free. He can now close his mouth. It got stuck about 4 more times before my mom came home so we had to keep helping him.
Now for awhile now we've been reading about how to trim it down, but we have no avian vets in the area, so my mom got the courage to try it herself. And yes, we knew the risks.
We've read and studied for about 2-3 weeks. My mom got her finger nail clippers and my brother and I took turns holding him. What happen?
We successfully clipped his beak without hurting him, causing pain, or making him bleed!
Bleeding was one of our main concerns because we heard a guy that did it wrong and killed his bird from clipping its beak...
All in all though, the story with the bird ended well. He can now climb and eat with no problems. We're going to wait a few days before trimming more of it off because we don't want to hurt him.
Now a few days ago I got sick, so we had to go through all of this with me being lightheaded and ill. My nose was running and I was coughing. I felt horrible. I'm feeling a bit better now, but I'm still not 100%.
Maybe later in the week things will be less crazy and I'll have time to go back to working on the Glory animation. In other news though, I finished making the new battle system and I think I fixed all the problems on the site!
I knew something was going to sneak up on me. Also the "Getting started" post was locked to all members except for the admin, meaning me...
So no one could view it. A new member joined and sent me a PM letting me know that no one could see it, and I fixed the problem right away. So, thanks dude for looking out. ^_-
Alright, enough rambling. I'm gonna read over a few more things on the site, then come off to take a rest. Adios for now my hyper antelopes!
