I wonder who is active this time of night? Oh well I got a profile to create! But I did enjoy the warm welcome I got via PM's and am looking forward to figuring this out.
This looks to be the most complicated of all rp sites in terms of combat but I like to think I learn fast and still eager
I'm a Vampire and I stay up at odd ours of the night. o.o
Combat seems complicated at first but all you really need to remember is that the higher number always wins. So roll on the dice and use your skills (skill number+dice roll=total) to always get your rolls higher than your opponents to deal out damage/defend.
There are slight things that makes it a bit more complicated, but I created a tutorial thing to help new players get started. For the most part You will learn as you go along.
For now we'll just take one step at a time. I look forward to reading your bio.
Alright, I need to go to bed!

Guinsu ATK roll= 19+5 +5 +5=34 Bounce DEF roll= 18 +17 +6 stance +1 bat =42 +12 dmg Bounce ATK= 13+12 +1 +1-5=22 Guinsu DEF roll 14 +1 +1 = 16 =6 dmg Guinsu16 HP remain Guinsu below 50% max hp loses I die from combat pool Chooses to lose 1DEF die -----
let's stop here. Guinsu has put his apples into attacking hoping to wound the defensive counter attacker quickly to even the tables. Should he fail and Bounces counter attack succeeds it could be real trouble for our two handed swordsman. Should Guinsu lose another 6hp or more he would find himself down an additional die (>75% of maxHP) and an even greater hill to climb.
Bounce 37 HP Guinsu 16 HP
To be continued

Guinsu ATK roll = 16 +7 +5 +5 +1 wounding =34 Bounce DEF roll = 3 +4 +6 stance +1 =14 counter fail 20 -5 (armor) = 15 damage Bounce 22 hp remain >50% max HP Chooses to lose 1 ATK die No Attack ----- Guinsu ATK Roll = 14 +4 +5 +5 =28 Bounce DEF roll = 3 +6 +17 +1 -6 (wound)= 21 counter fail 28 -21 -4 =3 damage Bounce 19 hp remain >75% of max HP Lose 1 DEF Die No attack ----- Guinsu ATK roll = 16 + 12 +5 +5= 38 Bounce DEF roll = 4 +6(stance) +1 – 6 (wound) =5 33 -5 -4 = 24 damage
BOUNCE DIES! To the victor the spoils
As you can see Guinsus gambit to continue to force the attack against the defensive minded counter attacker paid off (this time). his superior blades also paid high dividends in this close combat matchup. A few rolls here or there and things might have been different
One thing that popped into mind. Would a stance or philosophy (counter attack) change have benefited Bounce later on in the matchup? If so how would you impliment it does it just take place and the user writes it into his post or does it cost somthing in return? Food for thought.
Next test may see the implimentation of a super hero mainstay ability...Super Strength. We will have to see if "Knockout" fairs better against our sword weilding butcher.
For those following the role play and Naida's most recent post with her attempting to save Spitfire, you may be wondering what she was attempting to pull off. If the dice log had cooperated she would have pulled the flames off of Spitfire and made the flames go out. But is that realistic or logical with her current set of abilities? Yes, it is!
Take a look at this cool video I found here:
Sadly, Naida didn't know the scientific details about her powers and couldn't pull off the same effect.

For those of you lingering in the shadows the 'dice aspect' of the roleplay isn't all that daunting. The randomness and the occasional failure add to realism as even the best intentions sometimes run into a hitch. It is these unexpected events that allow you to expand your character and begin to challenge your thinking giving your roleplaying a new dimension. This life is not a box of chocolates.
I can see the story lingering upon the gang wars for the near future and is an opportune time to add new characters into the mix without worrying what has preceeeded. This Role play is centered around character growth. Just because you haven't been part of the story from the beginning doesn't mean you have to read through reams of material to get caught up. Recent news events will help keep you advised on the current pulse of the city. And the rest is fed through investigation in character.
