Also known as the "Waste lands". This is the small area that connects the Government district and the Slums at the south east part of the city. There isn't much out here. You may ask "define not much", we mean: No trees, no plants, no animals, no water, no people. No one comes here except to drive through to get to the next area. There is a small road that leads down to District zero, but it is blocked off by a barricade of OPD officers.
No taxi man is crazy enough to pick up a strange person walking in these parts. It's best if you just have a friend come pick you up, or drive through this area in the first place...

As Wavelink made the turn off road into the badlands Bernard’s senses began to tingle and the tiny hairs raised upon the back of his neck indicating something was wrong. The sensation really came as no surprise, considering the undertaking, yet in that instant he also experienced the nervous tension in his belly as if this may well be his last endeavor. They were driving towards danger….. something very powerful was approaching.
Several thoughts came to mind as fixated upon black smoke rising from District Zero in the distance. It would seem to indicate some sort of destruction within the perimeter. It was unlikely to have been caused by explosions. Wavelink herself indicated that the proposed expansion of the tunnels had not been completed. Had Glory busted loose from her confinement in the turmoil?
Perhaps the perimeter defenses were not depleted as expected. Little information was truly available as to what would happen should one approach the wall. There were sniper towers and search light to scan the fields from anyone trying to sneak in. Citizens were quickly informed "This area is off limits. There's nothing to see here. Move along..." by an armed guard lined up in from of a barricade to make sure no one got close. For all they knew a Hydra RL50 was already trained upon their transport ready to unleash its whopping ten inches of pure destructive force that explodes on contact.
They were still upon the outskirts of the badlands. It could be as simple as is high powered Sensitive or infected taking up residence where nobody dared to go. ”I’ll keep my eyes peeled for trouble.” Bernard insisted. ”I sense there’s something out there. I’m just not quite sure what we can expect. I’ll try to give us some cover until we discover the threat.“
Whether it was one or a hundred vehicles crossing the forbidden zone it wouldn’t matter if the walls were in fact still guarded. They would be targeted. He was willing to take that chance but would attempt to skew the odds in their favor. If there was something out there as perceived, perhaps the magnitude of his illusion would simply scare them away. Instead of masking the appearance of the transport the Sensitive concentrated his efforts pushing an illusion of dozens of white vans making their way toward the wall. If an attack was launched the added targets may give them more of an opportunity to react. If no threat presented itself he would carry out the deception until the made it safely to the wall.

There was a hord... At least two dozen Consumers were attempting to flood out of a giant hole that had been blown out of the side of the wall. The hole didn't look like it was caused by the bombs and the collapsing tunnels, it looked recent, as in- the last twenty minutes or so. Several Hydra guards were stationed up on the wall shooting down at the Consumers as they attempted to flood out of the gaping hole. For now, they seemed to be holding them off, but it was an entire district of infected that was rushing at them and every time they had to reload, the Consumers gained a slight foothold and made it that much closer to getting out. Hydra was shooting them down, but several Consumers just kept getting back up and healing their own wounds, others would get shot and wouldn't even slow down or fall, it was as if they felt no pain and didn't even feel the blow hit them.
Standing at the base of the wall, about 30 feet from the hole, stood a man with long white flowing hair. He was dressed in a black combat suit, in one of his hands he held an Excel long blade that glowed with a brilliant yellow light. On his head he wore a gold mask that covered his eyes, it was completely smooth though with no slits or eye holes for him to see out of whatsoever.
He stood with the sword down by his side, he wasn't trying to fight neither Hydra nor the Consumers, he just stood there watching the chaos unfold. As Bernard and his gang approached, the man with the golden mask slowly turned to look over his shoulder at the approaching army of vehicles, but he didn't seem too bothered by it. Hydra on the other hand freaked out. One of the soldiers stationed on the wall began barking orders to fire upon the approaching army. Two Hydra agents pulled out rocket launchers and began firing at the approaching vans, but the magnitude of the approaching army made them panic even more, causing several more Hydra agents to stop firing at the Consumers to look behind them out into the Badlands.
Wavelink turned to Bernard. "We've got their attention! They're firing at us! What do we do? Do we keep going?" She swerved the van in an attempt to dodge the incoming fire.
The rockets struck the ground and exploded with violent force, but not close enough to hit them or damage the van. It was now at this point that the man with the golden mask completely turned around to face them. He still did not raise his weapon, but a smirk appeared upon his face.

The scene was hard to fathom. Every aspect the red headed pesimist had imagined anticipated seemed to be culminating in front of him. All except one. The golden masked man with the flowing white hair.
Bernard had encountered the man before, at least in his visions. The Golden Spaniard was an ESPer like him. A force to be reckoned with. He recalled the scene of police cars glowing red and then exploded like a small nuclear bomb went off- sending a massive bellow of smoke and fire into the air and shattering all the windows of the buildings in the surrounding area with a simple crushing motion of his hand. What puzzled The Sensitive him was the costumed bystander’s ambiguous posture in all of this. Had he orchestrated the breach? Were either side even aware of his presence?
Wavelink turned to Bernard. "We've got their attention! They're firing at us! What do we do? Do we keep going?" She swerved the van in an attempt to dodge the incoming fire tossing the passengers about in the cargo area of the vehicle.
The rockets struck the ground and exploded with violent force, but not close enough to hit them or damage the van. It was now at this point that the man with the golden mask completely turned around to face them. He still did not raise his weapon, but a smirk appeared upon his face. It was all a game to him.
”Señor Vega we are not here to interfere. We only wish to pass.” Bernard telepathically pushed the testimony of intent hoping the Spaniard allow them to pass without incident. It was unclear if the message even made it to its recipient or if the terms would be accepted. Bernard only hoped his own illusion would afford the the time to figure this out.
”Pedal to the metal girl!” Bernard instructed the driver uprighting himself from his toppled position. ”It appears somebody may have been kind enough to have already opened a sizeable gap and we're going to take it. Bianca, you able to view any of that that footage you’re recording? I need to know how much of this is real before we hit that hole. Illusions can play tricks with the mind but they can’t fool recording devices. It would be painful paradigm if our Spaniard mischief-maker is simply toying with our minds.”

((So many people! Right, +40 for evasion rolls. Note taken!))
Wavelink gave a sharp nod of her head. "Right! Hold on, we're going through!" She pushed her foot on the gas and sped up towards the hole in the wall and the Golden Spaniard. "Keep the rockets away if you can, one hit and we'll all be toast! This van wasn't designed for combat!" She yelled.
Bianca frantically nodded her head to Bernard's question. "I see it! I see everything, it's all real! If it were an illusion it would be quite the feat to fool the cameras. There are a lot of those freaks out there though!" Bianca responded.
Garrett took a tumble in the back and put a hand on the wall of the van to steady himself. "I thought Carson was going insane, you're all just as mad! This is suicide! We should find another way in!" He yelled.
The Golden Spaniard seemed amused by all the events unfolding. He took a slight step to the side and extended a hand to the oncoming army so that they could proceed passed him, a physical gesture to let them know that they could pass without harm. 'Si, you may proceed. I will not interfere, my fight is not with the lot of you.' He responded in thought to Bernard's request.
Hydra reloaded their weapons and opened fire on the approaching army of vans once more, but again their attacks missed; exploding with violent force and creating large craters in the earth and bellows of black smoke. Wavelink swerved the van and continued to press forward. The commander on the wall began pointing his finger at the approaching vans and dividing his troops to attack both the vans and the mass of Consumers.
Wavelink gripped the steering wheel tighter and yelled as she approached the wall.
"As soon as we break through the wall things are going to get bumpy! I'm going to have to run a few of them over to punch through. Hang on!" They drove passed the Spaniard and into the fray of Consumers, hitting dozens of them as they breached the wall and entered District Zero, but there were just too many of them. The van struck them and jumped violently as they ran over the deranged humans and pressed forward. There were so many Consumers that they had began to bottleneck the hole in the wall, causing the van to get stuck from the massive number of enemies blocking their path. Even at top speed they began to slow down as they ran over Consumer after Consumer.
(( I'll use the Sedan stats for the van. I just noticec it has ACY and EVS stats, so I will add that as well from now on. Rocket accuracy: 27-20=7.... wow... such fail... "I thought Carson was going insane, you're all just as mad! This is suicide! We should find another way in!" Garrett yelled. ”If he only knew half of it.” the red headed Sensitive mused.
Bianca had aleady refuted Bernard’s suspicions. He would have much preferred all this to be a matter of the Golden Spaniard screwing with his mind who seemed all too amused by the situation. Hydra once again opened fire but again their attacks missed their mark. They drove passed the Spaniard and into the fray of Consumers, hitting dozens of them as they breached the wall and entered District Zero.
Unfortunately for Bernard and his invading posse the sheer number of the Consumers in their path caused the vehicle to slow and bottleneck at the hole in the wall. Both a blessing and a curse. He once again began focusing his unique power.
”Don’t panic!” He shouted. “Just hold tight. This works to our advantage. I’m counting on all those Consumers swarming to get first dibs at a fresh food source. Hell, some of them might even tear each other apart trying to get to us in the process. All we need to do is wait for the right moment to strike. As fragile as it may seem, the van should provide sufficient refuge until that time . If all goes well we can be done with the majority of these bastards all at once.”

((I'll use the speed bonus for the defense as well so.... 40(Consumer rank)+20(Infection bonus)x3= 180 attack Van defense=50. 180-50= 130 damage. Van has 20 HP left))
The car came to a halt, they were stuck in the ocean of bodies. One of the Consumers stopped running passed the van to stop and stare straight at it, it had a blank look on its face as it looked through the slightly tinted windows. A second or two passed as it looked on, then it bared its teeth and charged forward, grabbing hold of the van's side sliding door to attempt to rip it clean off with its strength. The door creaked and groaned from the damage, but it held fast... for now.
A second Consumer attempted to run close but it was shot in the head by one of the Hydra snipers stationed up on the wall, but that didn't stop the horde. It didn't take long for another consumer to jump on the hood of the car to start smashing in the glass with both of its fists as if it were a raging ape. Another ran up to the driver's side window and punched straight through it and attempted to grab Wavelink. She let off a shriek and leaned over closer to Bianca to distance herself from the superhuman freak's grasp.
The rocket fire was still focused on the illusion outside the walls, but that wouldn't last long if Bernard's attention was divided between both tasks... unless he was able to hold his focus to maintain the illusion.
Wavelink, Bianca, and Garrett all sat wide eyed at the chaos around them. Garrett was the first to break the silence.
"Don't panic?!?! Like hell! This isn't exactly what I signed on for... We need to move, now! They're going to rip the car apart!" He yelled.
Garrett reached into the duffle bag of weapons that Wavelink had brought along and pulled out a shotgun. Wavelink began to charge up energy to melt the nearest Consumer's hand off in case it got too close, while Bianca just sat holding the camera in fear as the glass began to crack from the Consumer in front of her. With each strike from the Consumer on the hood of the car Bianca would let off a small scream of fear.
"Do something!" Bianca yelled.
"I don't know if I'll attract more if I kill this one!" Wavelink yelled back.
Garrett pumped the shotgun and stood up in a slight crouch. "If you don't do something I will!"

The situation was quickly spiraling out of control. But, who could blame the others given the circumstances. For most of them it was their first experience with the insatiable deranged monstrosities.
”If you fire that thing you compromise the integrity of the safety glass and we’re finished. “ Bernard chastised. ”THE VAN WILL HOLD! I know what I’m doing but I need a little more time. If we don’t wipe them out in one defined strike we don’t stand much of a chance.
The van rocked and shook under the external influence of their pursuers. Bernard stretched out his arms placing an extended palm against each sidewall of the van’s cargo area steadying his position. An arm breached the driver’s side window. It’s clawed digits flailing wildly to grap fresh flesh The Sensitive had generated a significant amount of force ready to be released at a moments notice. He feared time had run out. This was no time to hold back.
”Punch it Maio Let’s get out of here!”
At that moment a searing hot telekinetic blast radiated outward from the van, violently thrusting the ravenging hoard away from the point of detonation. Given the enegy input the amount af damage would be devastating incinerating both flesh and bone almost instantly as if they had dog piled upon a very large incenerary device only to have it detonate from their mishandling.

((That total damage roll! I believe the total focus damage is 185 from both rolls, skill level and added SP. Consumer defense: 185-30 (defense)+20 (Consumer bonus)=135 damage. Location: Q-18, heading East))
The wave of energy was unleashed and slammed into the army of Consumers that were surrounding the car. Many turned to dust and burst into a cloud of ash and flames, others were knocked back from the blast and began to burn, letting off shrieking screams of pain and fury as they writhed on the ground in agony. Not all of the Consumers died, but it was enough to clear a path. Everyone stared in amazement as the army was dispersed with a single blast of power. Wavelink didn't waste any more time, she pressed the pedal to the metal, the tire dug into the ground and began to spin, and they shot forward to drive out of the fray, heading east into District Zero. The remainder of the Consumers in the area continued charging the wall.
There was a row of abandoned houses as they entered through the wall, a small side street that was once a thriving community. The road ahead had more Consumers, but they seemed to be heading north on the main road instead of heading west towards them.
As soon as Bernard cleared the entryway, Vega charged forward and jumped into the air using his superpowers, shooting off a glowing yellow beam of energy at his feet and launching himself into the air to land on the wall with the Hydra agents. As he fell towards the soldiers stationed on the wall he landed in a spinning arc, slicing his glowing yellow sword from shoulder to hip at the nearest soldier and splitting him clean in half. The agents turned their fire upon him and started shooting, but their bullets never hit. A shimmer of energy appeared around him and the bullets passed through it and began to melt and disperse as they came close and passed through his energy shield. He charged forward, slicing his way through the soldiers to kill the remainder that was left on the western wall.
Bianca turned to face Bernard. "That was amazing! Scary, insane, but amazing! I thought we were going to die and then all of a sudden, bam! Magic blast that saved us! I think that was one of the only times I have actually seen you use your powers like that! I mean, I knew you could do... things, but not like that! What else can you do? What are your powers and how do they work exactly?" She now turned the camera around to face him, curiosity was now beaming on her face.
Wavelink continued driving east, but she slowed down as they started nearing the main road. She eventually pulled off to the side of the road and come to a stop. "There are a lot more up ahead, hard to tell how many. Should I turn down one of the side streets and head south or keep going until we reach the main intersection? No telling which path is safer. I'm not sure how much more the van can take at this point..."
Garrett was breathing hard and shook his head. "Might be better to go on foot at this point and stick to the shadows... But we'll get there faster in the car. If you can do more of those... nukes, we could get there a heck of a lot faster. If we don't have to ever face those things in person I would be cool with that."

Bernard cupped his hand over the camera lens and pushed it away.
”Not the time Bee.” Benard stated dryly.”Maybe some other time. We’re not out of the woods yet.”
The Sensitive could already see what appeared to another gathering ahead even as Maio slowed and pulled off to the side of the street that once seemed to be a thriving community. He was about to address the driver’s query when Garrett piped in with two cents.
"Might be better to go on foot at this point and stick to the shadows... But we'll get there faster in the car. If you can do more of those... nukes, we could get there a heck of a lot faster. If we don't have to ever face those things in person I would be cool with that."

”I’m spent.’” Bernard bluntly informed his companion. ” I’m afraid there will be no more ’nukes’ as you call them for the time being. I agree with your initial strategem. We will be better served to move on foot and stick to the shadows. The van will only attract attention diving down these streets. Perhaps we’ll be able to blend in. Not that that camea will help our cause any.”
Bernard opened his satchel removing one of the blue serums and jabbed the pen-like device into his thigh. Almost instantly he could feel the euphoric rush of the serum as it entered his bloodstream and distributed thoughout his body. It wasn’t much but at least he had something to fall back upon in a pinch. What he wouldn’t give right now for one of those glowing blue serums he had heard about.
“We’ll stick to the side streets for now and make our way south. If this thing has an alarm and it's still active perhaps we could rig it and set if off when were a safe distance away. Indications are these creatures should react to loud distubances and flashing lights. It might buy us a little leeway should we need a distraction. Quickly! Grab your gear and let’s move out before we're spotted!"
